this warms my heart that Mosaic was recognized on such a wide-spread media as CNN, because the more people hear the more they ask :-). thank you for the podcasts, they are so helpful.

That CNN coverage is awesome exposure. I love the criticism for not being bound by religious activities though I think the particular critic doesn’t fully understand Mosaic’s model.

As a complete outsider to American churches I though the juxtaposition of the images of Mosaic and Willow Creek (the number one most influential church in America) were interesting in comparison i.e. a much younger congregation at one and a much older at another.

However, the final comments of the newscasters sum up why some aspects of putting measurements against Churches in this way is unhelpful. These comment were along the lines of efforts to teach pastors how to grow congratulation’s. While growth is an immediate indicator of a healthy church its not the point. Surely facilitating the connection of unbelievers to an authentic experience of and intimacy with God is a fundamental to Christianity -this is the message that should be one of the first things mentioned about what Christians do and the doing of this is where I think Mosaic excels.

I would love to see a similar survey done on a global scale. Outside of the Catholic movement I would say Mosaic is definitely impacting more significantly on a global aspects then most American churches could dream of.

Oh and I’m sure Erwin is just loving begin referred to as “the ultimate hip Pastor”. I love it, lol.

I was just saying to the kids last night at bedtime that C.S. Lewis quote about shooting for heaven and getting earth thrown in ..just like Mosaic is focusing on Jesus Christ and now even CNN is picking up on it..
Do you think Ted Turner and gang get the fact that we are filled with the Spirit and ambassadors for Christ ?
2 Corinth 5:20 says:We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. ( credit goes to our brother James Macdonald teaching on this recently )
‘Through us’..wow..I remember standing in a small church near the blue blue water of the St. Clair river in 1986 when I was 25 and giving my testimony before the congregation that the Holy Spirit came into me and i was a new creature.
It was through the one member there that prayed over me and taught me about Jesus. Jesus worked through him.
Now the mosaic teaching has fired me up to pray and be aware of His presence unceasingly. With my eyes open and closed :-) If mosaic’s goal is to empower others with the Spirit and then have others empower others then it’s working on me. Thanks be to God the Father working through mosaic. I hope CNN will have to do more stories on the fact that Christ our Most High God worked through mosaic and through that ..all of North America is now being amazingly/supernaturally ministering Love, Hope and Faith.

..oh yeah and I just remembered Erwin taught in his Leadership talk that Jesus on the hillside (in Mathew) envisioned us all to be light and salt ..had a vision of little ole us being worked through .. cool

…adreneline is flowing here as I think of how mosaic has activated in me this realization that we are made of spirit intertwined with Spirit intertwined with Truth ..awesome balance..

These Barlow Girl lyriics fit perfectly ..
crank this song up and feel the adrenaline:
    “Let Go”

    Yeah I trust in You
I remember times You led me
    This time it’s bigger now
And I’m afraid You’ll let me down

But how can I be certain?
    Will You prove Yourself again?

    [Chorus:]
‘Cause I’m about to let go
    And live what I believe
    I can’t do a thing now
But trust that You’ll catch me
    When I let go
    When I let go

What is this doubt in me
Convincing me to fear the unknown
    When all along You’ve shown
Your plans are better than my own

    And I know I won’t make it
If I do this all alone

lol. got a kick out of the comment from that David Wells dude. Doesn’t require religion? A church that’s not corporate? Eek! Oh no! :) That was great. It’s cool that Mosaic was highlighted out of all those other 50 churches. Kinda proves what Erwin says about LA being such an awesome place to be to have influence…. :)

Hey, i just saw the CNN cover of Mosaic and i really liked that Erwin is wearing the german soccer shirt. Wonderful to see him wearing it. Has anyone an idea, why he is doing it? Maybe the answer is in his podcast, but i am a little bit behind with listening to it …

So amazing!! It’s so incredible how God is using Mosaic and Pastor Mcmanus to shape the moviment of Jesus Christ around the world!

Wow! A church that IS the world instead of IN is the world. I mean, dude, even Jesus couldn’t conveive of such an AWESOME concept where the world actually likes us instead of hates us like He said in John 15:19. Only the Bible literates who have answers hate what Mosaic does and who cares about them anyway, right? Makes me wanna rip my jeans some more and spike my hair and put a tongue ring in NOW! Erwin you are the MAN! Satan himself probably asks you for ideas!

As a contributor at the website Slice of Laodicea: http://www.sliceoflaodicea.com/archives/2006/08/emergents_on_cn.php and as a pastor-teacher who has throughly investigated this Emergent “conversation” for the past year, in answer to Tiv M: “Do you think Ted Turner and gang get the fact that we are filled with the Spirit and ambassadors for Christ?”, I can tell you absolutely not. I wish I had better news for you but this was nothing less than dragging the world into the church.

The quote by C.S. Lewis, though a dubious source, is partially correct, it is obvious that you are “getting earth thrown in.” And Laner has some twisted truth as well, someone “is using Mosaic and Pastor Mcmanus to shape the moviment (sic) of Jesus Christ around the world!, but I tell you in the Lord that it is not the God of the Bible.

Is it just me, or does it seem like E. Mac has been lifting weights? In the CNN video I can see some definition in his arms and shoulders that I don’t think was there a couple months ago. Finally, a pastor who cares about his body as well as his spirit! Hit ‘em hard E. Mac!

Don’t just jump at the glamorized goading of a cable news story. To those of you who have made rash comments against either: I would encourage you to do some research before making sarcastic remarks against your brother.Honestly, it’s kind of silly how they tried to pit Dr. Wells against Mosaic/Erwin McManus.

CNN wanted to spice the story up with some hack-job contraversy which doesn’t exist. Just because they juxtaposed Dr. Wells comments against a story about Mosaic doesn’t mean that he was even remotely speaking about them. I doubt it because I’m readily familiar with their doctrinal and methodological views, and I don’t see them at odds with each other at all.

The Bible teaches us to show preference to a brother in Christ. Don’t let a misguided news story convince you that Erwin isn’t doctrinally sound or that Dr. Wells couldn’t hang with a postmod crowd and be every bit relevant. C’mon folks, wise up!

    Questions questions more questions lol..
What is the role of the church ? Just talked about this in class last thursday …and maybe it’s simply just pointing to Jesus Christ and pointing to the Kingdom of Heaven…and pointing to eternal life ? we are human yet empowered by the Holy Spirit.. and if we are going to model Jesus then we are going to be compassionate about people as He was…which is hard to do for me anyway …nice to sit here and give our opinions but let’s engage culture as well ..
Good comment Jason K. about how media looks for sensationalism. I’ve experienced this first hand.

I find the idea of coming up with an annual ranking of the “50 Most Influential Churches” to be an ironic twist on Jesus’ teaching of the reailty of the Kingdom among us. The story didn’t reveal what the criterion was that result in this ranking either.

Regardless of the need to be one of the best, I do appreciate the way that God is using Erwin McManus. I brought the leadership team from our church to conference where Erwin was speaking, and God did an amazing work in some of our team through Erwin’s heart and words. So thank you! That is how I would do the ranking - heart transformation!

I also thought the final comment from the clip told the whole story. “It’s a long way from the Latin I remember when I was young.”

    Blessings ~ Jeff
