New International Version
Daniel 2:45
45 This is the meaning of the vision of the rock cut out of a mountain, but not by human hands—a rock that broke the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver and the gold to pieces.
“The great God has shown the king what will take place in the future. The dream is true and the interpretation is trustworthy.”
Daniel 10:14
14 Now I have come to explain to you what will happen to your people in the future, for the vision concerns a time yet to come.”
Acts 16:16-29
16Once when we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a slave girl who had a spirit by which she predicted the future. She earned a great deal of money for her owners by fortune-telling. 17This girl followed Paul and the rest of us, shouting, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who are telling you the way to be saved.” 18She kept this up for many days. Finally Paul became so troubled that he turned around and said to the spirit, “In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!” At that moment the spirit left her.
19When the owners of the slave girl realized that their hope of making money was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace to face the authorities. 20They brought them before the magistrates and said, “These men are Jews, and are throwing our city into an uproar 21by advocating customs unlawful for us Romans to accept or practice.”
22The crowd joined in the attack against Paul and Silas, and the magistrates ordered them to be stripped and beaten. 23After they had been severely flogged, they were thrown into prison, and the jailer was commanded to guard them carefully. 24Upon receiving such orders, he put them in the inner cell and fastened their feet in the stocks.
25About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. 26Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everybody’s chains came loose. 27The jailer woke up, and when he saw the prison doors open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself because he thought the prisoners had escaped. 28But Paul shouted, “Don’t harm yourself! We are all here!” 29The jailer called for lights, rushed in and fell trembling before Paul and Silas.
Jeremiah 29:11-19
11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you,” declares the LORD, “and will bring you back from captivity. I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you,” declares the LORD, “and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile.”
15 You may say, “The LORD has raised up prophets for us in Babylon,” 16 but this is what the LORD says about the king who sits on David’s throne and all the people who remain in this city, your countrymen who did not go with you into exile- 17 yes, this is what the LORD Almighty says: “I will send the sword, famine and plague against them and I will make them like poor figs that are so bad they cannot be eaten. 18 I will pursue them with the sword, famine and plague and will make them abhorrent to all the kingdoms of the earth and an object of cursing and horror, of scorn and reproach, among all the nations where I drive them. 19 For they have not listened to my words,” declares the LORD, “words that I sent to them again and again by my servants the prophets. And you exiles have not listened either,” declares the LORD
2 Kings 20:1-6
1 In those days Hezekiah became ill and was at the point of death. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz went to him and said, “This is what the LORD says: Put your house in order, because you are going to die; you will not recover.”
2 Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the LORD, 3 “Remember, O LORD, how I have walked before you faithfully and with wholehearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly.
4 Before Isaiah had left the middle court, the word of the LORD came to him: 5 “Go back and tell Hezekiah, the leader of my people, ‘This is what the LORD, the God of your father David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will heal you. On the third day from now you will go up to the temple of the LORD. 6 I will add fifteen years to your life. And I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria. I will defend this city for my sake and for the sake of my servant David.’ ”
Genesis 18:16-33
16 When the men got up to leave, they looked down toward Sodom, and Abraham walked along with them to see them on their way. 17 Then the LORD said, “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do? 18 Abraham will surely become a great and powerful nation, and all nations on earth will be blessed through him. 19 For I have chosen him, so that he will direct his children and his household after him to keep the way of the LORD by doing what is right and just, so that the LORD will bring about for Abraham what he has promised him.”
20 Then the LORD said, “The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and their sin so grievous 21 that I will go down and see if what they have done is as bad as the outcry that has reached me. If not, I will know.”
22 The men turned away and went toward Sodom, but Abraham remained standing before the LORD. 23 Then Abraham approached him and said: “Will you sweep away the righteous with the wicked? 24 What if there are fifty righteous people in the city? Will you really sweep it away and not spare the place for the sake of the fifty righteous people in it? 25 Far be it from you to do such a thing—to kill the righteous with the wicked, treating the righteous and the wicked alike. Far be it from you! Will not the Judge of all the earth do right?” 26 The LORD said, “If I find fifty righteous people in the city of Sodom, I will spare the whole place for their sake.” 27 Then Abraham spoke up again: “Now that I have been so bold as to speak to the Lord, though I am nothing but dust and ashes, 28 what if the number of the righteous is five less than fifty? Will you destroy the whole city because of five people?”
“If I find forty-five there,” he said, “I will not destroy it.”
29 Once again he spoke to him, “What if only forty are found there?”
He said, “For the sake of forty, I will not do it.” 30 Then he said, “May the Lord not be angry, but let me speak. What if only thirty can be found there?”
He answered, “I will not do it if I find thirty there.” 31 Abraham said, “Now that I have been so bold as to speak to the Lord, what if only twenty can be found there?”
He said, “For the sake of twenty, I will not destroy it.” 32 Then he said, “May the Lord not be angry, but let me speak just once more. What if only ten can be found there?”
He answered, “For the sake of ten, I will not destroy it.”
33 When the LORD had finished speaking with Abraham, he left, and Abraham returned home
Genesis 12:1-3
1 The LORD had said to Abram, “Leave your country, your people and your father’s household and go to the land I will show you.
2 “I will make you into a great nation
and I will bless you;
I will make your name great,
and you will be a blessing.
3 I will bless those who bless you,
and whoever curses you I will curse;
and all peoples on earth
will be blessed through you
Genesis 18:18
18 Abraham will surely become a great and powerful nation, and all nations on earth will be blessed through him.
Genesis 22:18
18 and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me.”
Genesis 26:4
4 I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and will give them all these lands, and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed,
Isaiah 56:6-8
6 And foreigners who bind themselves to the LORD
to serve him, to love the name of the LORD, and to worship him,
all who keep the Sabbath without desecrating it and who hold fast to my covenant- 7 these I will bring to my holy mountain and give them joy in my house of prayer.
Their burnt offerings and sacrifices will be accepted on my altar;
for my house will be called a house of prayer for all nations.”
8 The Sovereign LORD declares—
he who gathers the exiles of Israel:
“I will gather still others to them
besides those already gathered.”
Revelation 5:9-10
9And they sang a new song:
“You are worthy to take the scroll
and to open its seals,
because you were slain,
and with your blood you purchased men for God
from every tribe and language and people and nation.
10You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God,
and they will reign on the earth.”
Mark 2:19
19Jesus answered, “How can the guests of the bridegroom fast while he is with them? They cannot, so long as they have him with them
Exodus 22:21
21 “Do not mistreat an alien or oppress him, for you were aliens in Egypt.
Exodus 23:9
9 “Do not oppress an alien; you yourselves know how it feels to be aliens, because you were aliens in Egypt.
2 Chronicles 6:32-33
32 “As for the foreigner who does not belong to your people Israel but has come from a distant land because of your great name and your mighty hand and your outstretched arm—when he comes and prays toward this temple, 33 then hear from heaven, your dwelling place, and do whatever the foreigner asks of you, so that all the peoples of the earth may know your name and fear you, as do your own people Israel, and may know that this house I have built bears your Name.
Matthew 15:21-28
21Leaving that place, Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon. 22A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is suffering terribly from demon-possession.”
23Jesus did not answer a word. So his disciples came to him and urged him, “Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us.”
24He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel.”
25The woman came and knelt before him. “Lord, help me!” she said.
26He replied, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to their dogs.”
27″Yes, Lord,” she said, “but even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters’ table.”
28Then Jesus answered, “Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.” And her daughter was healed from that very hour.
Romans 9:1-18
1I speak the truth in Christ—I am not lying, my conscience confirms it in the Holy Spirit— 2I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart. 3For I could wish that I myself were cursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my brothers, those of my own race, 4the people of Israel. Theirs is the adoption as sons; theirs the divine glory, the covenants, the receiving of the law, the temple worship and the promises. 5Theirs are the patriarchs, and from them is traced the human ancestry of Christ, who is God over all, forever praised! Amen.
6It is not as though God’s word had failed. For not all who are descended from Israel are Israel. 7Nor because they are his descendants are they all Abraham’s children. On the contrary, “It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.” 8In other words, it is not the natural children who are God’s children, but it is the children of the promise who are regarded as Abraham’s offspring. 9For this was how the promise was stated: “At the appointed time I will return, and Sarah will have a son.”
10Not only that, but Rebekah’s children had one and the same father, our father Isaac. 11Yet, before the twins were born or had done anything good or bad—in order that God’s purpose in election might stand: 12not by works but by him who calls—she was told, “The older will serve the younger.” 13Just as it is written: “Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.”
14What then shall we say? Is God unjust? Not at all! 15For he says to Moses,
“I will have mercy on whom I have mercy,
and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.” 16It does not, therefore, depend on man’s desire or effort, but on God’s mercy. 17For the Scripture says to Pharaoh: “I raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display my power in you and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.” 18Therefore God has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy, and he hardens whom he wants to harden.
Malachi 1:1-4
1 An oracle: The word of the LORD to Israel through Malachi. 2 “I have loved you,” says the LORD.
“But you ask, ‘How have you loved us?’
“Was not Esau Jacob’s brother?” the LORD says. “Yet I have loved Jacob, 3 but Esau I have hated, and I have turned his mountains into a wasteland and left his inheritance to the desert jackals.”
4 Edom may say, “Though we have been crushed, we will rebuild the ruins.”
But this is what the LORD Almighty says: “They may build, but I will demolish. They will be called the Wicked Land, a people always under the wrath of the LORD.
Luke 19:26-27
26″He replied, ‘I tell you that to everyone who has, more will be given, but as for the one who has nothing, even what he has will be taken away. 27But those enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them—bring them here and kill them in front of me.”
Acts 13:38-52
38″Therefore, my brothers, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you. 39Through him everyone who believes is justified from everything you could not be justified from by the law of Moses. 40Take care that what the prophets have said does not happen to you:
41″ ‘Look, you scoffers,
wonder and perish,
for I am going to do something in your days
that you would never believe,
even if someone told you.’ ”
42As Paul and Barnabas were leaving the synagogue, the people invited them to speak further about these things on the next Sabbath. 43When the congregation was dismissed, many of the Jews and devout converts to Judaism followed Paul and Barnabas, who talked with them and urged them to continue in the grace of God.
44On the next Sabbath almost the whole city gathered to hear the word of the Lord. 45When the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy and talked abusively against what Paul was saying.
46Then Paul and Barnabas answered them boldly: “We had to speak the word of God to you first. Since you reject it and do not consider yourselves worthy of eternal life, we now turn to the Gentiles. 47For this is what the Lord has commanded us:
” ‘I have made you a light for the Gentiles,
that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.’ ”
48When the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and honored the word of the Lord; and all who were appointed for eternal life believed.
49The word of the Lord spread through the whole region. 50But the Jews incited the God-fearing women of high standing and the leading men of the city. They stirred up persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them from their region. 51So they shook the dust from their feet in protest against them and went to Iconium. 52And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.
2 Peter 3:8-9
8But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. 9The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
Zechariah 8:20-23
20 This is what the LORD Almighty says: “Many peoples and the inhabitants of many cities will yet come, 21 and the inhabitants of one city will go to another and say, ‘Let us go at once to entreat the LORD and seek the LORD Almighty. I myself am going.’ 22 And many peoples and powerful nations will come to Jerusalem to seek the LORD Almighty and to entreat him.”
23 This is what the LORD Almighty says: “In those days ten men from all languages and nations will take firm hold of one Jew by the hem of his robe and say, ‘Let us go with you, because we have heard that God is with you.’ ”

Hi,
With every one of these messages I get more of a sense that I am totally enveloped in Kingdom - right now and right here on earth. The Keys of scripture keep opening the door of heaven as it pours out on earth ..on us - the Body. Every breath, every second of time the Kingdom and God’s presence is around us and in us ! as Erwin prayed in the last podcast. And of course with this comes more thirst and hunger for God’s Word…more desire to excercise my spiritual gift in social action. I thank you Lord Jesus for this mosaic ministry with all my heart soul and mind.
I would so love to be at the Ethos event in NY city in November but I will need to work those days. uhg.

THANK YOU, Erwin, for such a timely message. I’ve been treading water in a sea of fatalism and exclusion, and you’ve thrown me a lifejacket. Bless you and praise Him.

I love Erwin’s messages too, and this one is no exception, but I fear that he has cast an overly bleak picture of Calvinism (was he using Calvinism as a pejorative?). To be sure, Calvinists can live up to the moniker of the “frozen chosenâ€, but that’s a distortion of the doctrine. As you might have figured out, I’m a Calvinist and yet the domino illustration Erwin used fits perfectly with my understanding. The more I understand about the depth of my sin and need of a savior, the more humbling it is that God could have possibly chosen me. That in turn compels me to share the Good News with others so maybe they’ll find they are chosen in Christ too.
As positive examples of Calvinists or those in the reformed camp I’d hold up Tim Keller in New York City and the work of John Piper. No one could accuse these men of being fatalists as they seek to preach and live Christ to the culture.
It’s hard to fathom how God could have a dynamic relationship with us and also have chosen us before the foundation of the world, but while I can’t understand that tension, this is what the bible teaches. A good read on the subject is “Chosen by God†by R.C. Sproul.

I’ve read some Piper books and love ‘em.
I think deep down inside I’m a calvinist in that God is ultimately soverign. The other side of this coin is as Erwin says we need to be compassionate and loving like Christ..ultimately we need line up with His moral will for us.
I was just discussing this last night in a Gospel, Church, Culture class I’m taking. The prof. went to John 8 where Jesus asks the people who want to stone the adultress says ‘He has he who no sin cast the first stone’ ..they all gradually disperse. This shows Jesus’ compassion for the adultress. Then he says to her ‘Go and sin no more’ This shows Jesus’ conviction/Truth side ….Jesus is a ‘colloborator’ that balances conviction and compassion..Truth and Love .. I think social action while filled with the Spirit and thus acting with the fruits of the Spirit ( Gal 2:20) we can do this domino effect that Erwin talks about. Pluralism/diversity is a good thing and God wants all saved and we are to act/imagine with all we are to exhibit His Love but yet balanced with conviction ( operating with our minds and hearts as if we are in the Kingdom on earth..which we are in the Kingdom when we become saved!).
It’s like the questions : can God build a rock bigger than He can lift ?.. Is God outside of time and space..yeah ….is He soverign ? does He know we are going to act out in the world with compassion like a mother Teresa and start this domino effect ? I think ultimately He does because He is soverign but we need to resolve(good Piper, Johnathon Edwards word :-)) to engage the culture and world with agape love and compassion now.. with all that we are ..mind, body, will, soul, spirit, imagination, heart..like Jesus.

I just wanted to express how much your messages have been to me. I recently gave my life to Christ again but this time was different I am living by what the bible says and what Christ leads me to. Your messages have given me hope and made me relize I am not crazy for thinking I need to live like this or act this way. This world trys to pull me in many directions but through your podcasts I stay grounded and I stenghtens me everytime I listen. You make the bible come alive and make sense. Thank you for tackling theses tough questions and bringing them to the forefront of your messages. You have helped me in my walk and made my life brighter and expanded my knowledge and made it alright for me to take a stand in my life for Christ when others have made fun of me or mocked me for my stand for Christ. Keep tackling theses tough questions because they need to be addressed. You help so many people. thanks

Hi Erwin & team!
You guys are doing an awesome job! Thanks for fulfilling your calling and taking all the effort to do what you do, because it is blessing so many people! I just had such fun listening to the “Is there a hell?” sermon! Fun from listening to someone articulate God’s heart when it comes to the subject of hell. I cried several times during your sermon just being overwhelmed with God’s Goodness and Grace (imagine that during a sermon on hell!) and I really want to encourage you that what you are doing is making an eternal difference in the lives of many, many more people than you can think and your works will pass through the fire and show to be of the highest quality!
Last week I stayed over with a friend while visiting a different town. This friend of mine stayed with me at university and I haven’t seen him much since that time. He has been exposed to so many different religions and schools of religious thought and really “messed up” with books like “Conversations with God”. In spending a couple of hours with him and just talking about God he is ready to go back to Church and his faith is strengthened - God really timed this so well. The best thing about my visit was that I could pull out my laptop and burn the podcasts from your latest series on CD for him and he would have started to listen to them already. They will be addressing the core questions of his life and provide faith, love and hope for his journey ahead. I will of course be sure to follow up with him but I just wanted to let you know that your labor is not in vain but rather of immeasurable value and is spreading like wildfire to places and people you could not imagine!
God bless you all!

I’ve been tuning in on a quest for wisdom. Erwin’s messages have been so clarifying to my heart and soul this last month. When your soul begins to crave the answers to questions. . .when your faith is shaken, not drowned. . .talks like these are revolutionizing the spirit inside me. I am renewed when I hear Erwin say things that have been whispered to us by God already, but now clarified in words that inspire and encourage me to tell others. Thanks, Erwin. You are being used to cinch more and more gaps between the Most High and creation.
