I have really enjoyed reading the first few chapters of Pastor Eric’s first book. I encourage everyone to read this wonderful and insightful book !!
Pastor Eric is right that the followers of Christ need to learn “the art of woo” and to reach out to others by partying and other welcoming methods.
Pastor Eric is very correct that Christ broke many social boundaries by reaching out and partying with social outcasts like Zaccheus, the tax collector who collaborated with the occupying Roman army (Luke 19:1-10).
Instead of excluding those like Zaccheus, we need to woo them and welcome into the kingdom of God, the kingdom of Heaven.
Instead of avoiding the Samaritan woman at the Well, Jesus crossed racial, religious and gender boundaries to tell her about the water that would bring her “everlasting life”. This was a woman with 5 prior husbands and who was living with a sixth man. John 4:1-30.
With the story of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:29), Jesus answers his own question: “Who is my neighbor?” This is a question that I really need to ask myself more often so that I can woo more people with the love of God into the Kingdom of Heaven. Thank you for your great sermon Pastor Eric!!

I have really learned a lot and enjoyed reading Eric’s whole book. I recommend that everyone buy a copy and read it !!
I especially liked Chapter 10 of Eric’s book entitled “The Mosque Next Door: Building Relationships with the Religious”.
In Los Angeles, the City of Angels, we are surrounded by neighbors, co-workers, acquaintances, etc. who are religious but not yet followers of Christ. As Eric explains we have a great opportunity to build relationships and friendships and show the love of God to these people whether they be Sikhs, Hindus, Muslims, atheists, Mormons, Buddhists, New Age, or any other religion.
As one minister once said: “Christ did not say the whole world should go to church but that the Church (the followers of Christ) should go out to the whole world.
We, followers of Christ, are responsible for revealing the Kingdom of God, the Kingdom of Heaven to these beautiful people.
At the Gate called of the temple called “Beautiful”, Christ’s disciples Peter and John met a crippled man who asked them for money.
Peter and John gave this lame man the most valuable and beautiful gift that any Christian can give another human being. They told him of Jesus Christ. But they also healed him so he could walk.
“And a certain man lame from his mother’s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple;
Who, seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, asked an alms.
And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us.
And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them.
Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.
And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.
And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God.”

I have re-read Pastor Eric’s book and it is even better the second time. The book is great because it reminds us, the followers of Christ, who are God’s Church on this Earth, that we must reach out in love to those who are lonely, in need of help physically, emotionally and spiritually, and to those on the fringes of our society, the outcasts of our culture.
For it is in reaching out to the lonely and the outcasts of our society and our world, we also reach out to Jesus, our Lord and our Savior. We meet Jesus in feeling and healing the pain and the suffering of our brothers and our sisters.
“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me” (Matthew 25:35-36, NIV).
