“It is finished.”
Three simple words that change everything. Jesus didn’t say “I am finished,” as if this were defeat. He said, “It is finished,” as in: mission accomplished. The debt of our sin: paid in full. The separation between humanity and God: restored.

This wasn’t a cry of defeat. It was a declaration of victory. What Jesus did on the cross was complete. Nothing more needs to be added. You are not working for forgiveness—you’re living from it. You don’t need to earn God’s love, it is already yours.

JOHN 19:28–30

28 Later, knowing that everything had now been finished, and so that Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.” 29 A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus’ lips.

30 When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

What part of your life are you still trying to “earn” what Jesus has already finished?

Jesus, thank You for the finality of those words—“It is finished.” Thank You for doing what I never could. Help me live in the freedom of what you’ve done. Let that truth echo in my soul and shape everything about how I see myself and You. Amen.
